Advanced Wound Care

Our wound care program combines the skills of therapy with the expertise of our nursing staff for wound prevention and treatment.  In order to be a part of our Advanced Wound Care Program, the therapists have completed core requirements in advanced wound care training and participate in ongoing education.

Therapeutic Modalities

Our therapeutic modalities incorporate evidence-based treatment protocols utilizing devices such as: electrical stimulation, Patterned Electrical Neuromuscular Stimulation (PENS), therapeutic ultrasound and short wave diathermy.  By decreasing pain, inflammation and edema, therapeutic modalities increase patient comfort and tolerance to treatment.  This enables therapists to introduce earlier more aggressive therapy interventions to help improve function and recovery. Therapeutic modalities also allow therapists to treat more complex conditions, decrease muscle disuse atrophy, enhance soft tissue healing through increased circulation and improve neuromuscular control in patients with orthopedic and neurological diagnoses.

Neuro-Muscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) / Vital-Stim® for Swallowing

This non-invasive e-stim therapy is specifically used to treat dysphagia and increase swallowing function.  It helps retrain the muscles used in swallowing along with exercise therapy designed by the Speech-Language Pathologist to decrease the risk of aspiration and reduce dietary restrictions.

Right Way Café

Patients participate in a multi-disciplinary dining room screening process designed to identify areas in which interventions can be implemented to support a positive dining experience. This program is the foundation for promoting restorative programs and also monitors functional maintenance at the time of discharge from therapy, continuing a patient's journey along the continuum of care.

Wheel SMART (Seating Mobility And Rehab Technology)

An interdisciplinary approach to address the needs of those dependent on wheeled mobility.  The program assesses the seating and/or positioning components for structural support, skin health and reduction of secondary medical complications as a result of non-optimal seated postures.

Wii-habilitation

The Nintendo® Wii enhances patient outcomes by providing a multimedia, interactive stimulus that incorporates hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills, physical endurance and muscular skeletal motion.  Not only does it provide depth perception, memory skills and adaptation to desired functional outcomes, but it’s fun!
